Hi there, I’m Krystin the Foundation Officer with the Queensland Library Foundation.

This week I want to introduce you to the Visitor and Information Services team, my amazing colleagues who work front-of-house and online assisting State Library patrons throughout the State.

Chances are if you have attended an event, visited an exhibition or accessed a resource, then you’ve more than likely met one of the friendly staff in our Visitor and Information Services team (VIS).

VIS supports the Foundation by sharing their knowledge and passion with our donors. They have kindly provided their expertise at our Foundation Heritage Talks, a private morning-tea event for donors, where they have shared stories and information about family history and how to access collection resources.

VIS is dedicated to providing a high quality experience to all visitors, whether onsite or online. Whilst our doors are closed they are hard at work making sure you are still looked after through our telephone services as well as the Ask Us service.  They help manage a range of online services, collections and databases for all ages and interests, bringing the world to your fingertips at home.

A few of our favourite services VIS helps clients access include:

• ASK US – your direct line to a librarian who will assist with questions or research guidance.
• Lynda.com - an elearning platform that includes over 13,000 free courses, with dozens added each week. 
• Kanopy – more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, hard-to-find titles, film festival favourites, indie and classic films and world cinema. There is a wide array of foreign language films and material of cultural value.
• Family history research assistance – Whether you're a beginner starting to trace your family history or a seasoned researcher looking to dig a little deeper, there are resources to access.

To access these great services all you need is a State Library membership, free to all Queensland residents and you can sign up online - the VIS team can even help you set that up!
