Our expert librarians can help you find and use State Library collections and resources, answer research questions and develop your research skills.
If your question needs more research, we can spend up to one hour researching it for you, free of charge. We’ll reply within 10 working days. You can request up to six extended enquiries each year.
Chat with a librarian
Our online chat connects you with State Library librarians in real time. It’s ideal for quick questions about our collections, resources, services and research. It is available Monday to Friday, 9 am–5 pm (excluding public holidays). Outside chat hours, you can submit a research enquiry.

Make an appointment
Make an appointment with a qualified librarian for help with your research or to learn how to use State Library’s resources.
Appointments are up to one hour and are available Monday to Friday, 9 am–5 pm (excluding public holidays).
