Level 1

Knowledge Walk (plaza), Welcome desk, Business Studio, The Library Shop, The Library Cafe, The Corner (families and children), Infozone, River Decks, kuril dhagun, Talking Circle, Level 1 meeting rooms & training room.
Level 1 spaces
Food and drinks are allowed everywhere on level 1.
- kuril dhagun - this is the place for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to meet, and for us to learn about unique Queensland Indigenous cultures, through exhibitions, events and digital programming. Enter through the Infozone or the Talking Circle.
- The River Decks - enjoy a spectacular view of the Brisbane River from one of the best-kept secret spots in South bank. Bring your lunch, have a coffee or put your feet up with a good book.
- Infozone - use a computer; plug in your laptop; print, copy or scan; relax; meet your friends. The carers room is located in the Infozone and is available for all carers with their children during Level 1 Infozone opening hours.
- The Parlour - play games, view exhibitions, read and relax.
- The Corner - State Library's well-loved space for families and children. There are programmed activities from Monday to Friday for under 8s and their parents and carers. Enter through the Infozone.
- The Library Cafe - feeling hungry? Relax before or after research, events, exhibitions or whatever brings you to SLQ and the Cultural Precinct and share delicious meals, snacks, refreshments and great coffee.
- The Library Shop - while away some time in this award winning specialist bookshop. Discover books and unique gifts for all ages. Specialising in all things Queensland.
- The Knowledge Walk - you can spend time in this covered, open air plaza where free wi-fi is available 7am to 8pm, 7 days per week.
- Welcome Desk - the information desk and your entrance to levels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Find out about State Library membership, use the cloak room to store your belongings and find out just about anything from our friendly team.
- Business Studio - The Business Studio Online Hub features a wide range of online material, checklists and government toolkits that can help you develop and grow your business from concept to reality.
- Level 1 meeting rooms and training room.

Level 2

Level 2 spaces
- Information collections - find a quiet space for research; use a computer; print, copy or scan; browse collections including computing, law, psychology, gardening, cooking, health and more. Use film viewing facilities.
- The Red Box - This architectural centrepiece connects levels 2 and 3 and offers unique river and city views from a glassed-in deck. It is sometimes used for readings, performances and weddings and is a great space to study. Available for hire.
- Poinciana Lounge - a spectacular open space overlooking the Brisbane River. A great place for study. Available for hire.
- Level 2 meeting rooms - there are four community meeting rooms overlooking the Brisbane River, available for free bookings with your membership details.
- Asia Pacific Design Library (APDL) - Relax, browse and be inspired by the best design books and magazines.
- SLQ Auditorium 2 - seating 105 people, this is a popular space for talks and small conferences, film screenings and workshops. Available for hire.
- Queensland Terrace - this spectacular outdoor space is worth a visit. See why it is one of Brisbane's most sought-after venues for weddings and special events. View the display of tea cups and stories from the Tea & Me project. Available for hire.
- SLQ Auditorium 1 - SLQ's largest meeting space and home to many free talks and events. It seats 264 people. Available for hire.
- slq Gallery - home to major exhibitions at SLQ; an international standard gallery space. Available for hire.
- Queensland Writers Centre - encourages connection and creativity through the art and business of writing, and celebrates the importance of books and writing.
Level 3

Information Collections (study/research spaces), Music Collection, Family history/Micrographics, Tim Fairfax Newspaper Reading Room, Level 3 meeting rooms
Level 3 spaces
- Information and family history service - ask a library professional; find a quiet space for research; use a computer; print, copy or scan; browse collections including music, history, art, literature, sport, theatre and geography. Use film viewing facilities. Seek help from specialist staff to find resources to research your family history. Facilities for people with vision impairment.
- The Red Box - This architectural centrepiece connects levels 2 and 3 and offers unique river and city views from a glassed-in deck. It is sometimes used for readings, performances and weddings and is a great space to study. Available for hire.
- Microfilm collections
- Level 3 meeting rooms - there are five community meeting rooms overlooking the Brisbane River available for free bookings with your membership details.
- Tim Fairfax Reading Room - relax and read the latest regional, national and international newspapers or watch ABC News24. You can also find newspapers online and on microfilm.
- Music collection - browse and borrow from our sheet music and music scores collections.
- SLQ Auditorium 1 - SLQ's largest meeting space and home to many free talks and events. It seats 264 people. (Entrance via Level 2)
- Music pratice room - available for free bookings with your membership details.
Level 4

John Oxley Library Reading Room, Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame, Level 4 meeting rooms, White Gloves Room, Australian Library of Art Showcase supported by the Siganto Foundation, Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery, Heritage Collections Learning Room, Talbot Family Treasures Wall, Black Opium rooms.
Level 4 spaces
- Silent study area - This is your favourite area if you need to concentrate hard. Not suitable for group study.
- John Oxley Library - consists of unique Queensland resources including diaries, manuscripts, artworks, photographs, original maps and plans and oral histories (film and digital stories) that chronicle events, people, places and ideas that continue to shape Queensland. Visit the Reading Room to view these materials or use our online catalogue (One Search).
- Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame - located within the John Oxley Library, this display recognises those who have made a significant contribution to Queensland through their business achievements. An initiative of the QUT Business School and SLQ.
- The Talbot Family Treasures Wall - a changing display showcasing a selection of SLQ's unique and rare items.
- Level 4 meeting rooms - there are four community meeting rooms overlooking the Brisbane River, available for free bookings with your membership details.
- White Gloves Room - a space for you to view and undertake specialised research on some of the wonderful treasures held in SLQ's Heritage Collections. To make an appointment, please call 3840 7880.
- Australian Library of Art Showcase - supported by the Siganto Foundation, it features highlights from the Australian Library of Art (ALA). The ALA is comprised of four collections: the James Hardie Library of Australian Fine Arts, the Lindsay Collection of Pat Corrigan, the History and Art of the Book Collection and the Artists'Books Collection.
- Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery - sponsored by nationally recognised commercial art dealer Philip Bacon, the exhibition space showcases the diversity and depth of SLQ's Heritage Collections through temporary exhibitions.
- Heritage Collections Learning Room - a space for groups to explore SLQ's Heritage Collections in workshops, talks and meetings.
- Black Opium - the special rooms are part of an artwork exploring history, memory and politics by Brisbane-based artist, Fiona Foley.
Level 5

Caring for the Collections exhibition, SLQ Boardroom
Level 5 spaces
- Preservation wall - learn how we care for the SLQ collections, including Queensland's documentary heritage material with this walk-by insight into Preservation Services.
- SLQ Boardroom - with views across the Queensland Cultural Centre and South Bank Parklands, it is available for hire.
The Edge

The Edge

The Edge Spaces
The Edge is your space to explore your creativity across the arts, technology, science and enterprise. The Edge provides access to specialist media labs and spaces to work on creative projects, along with a vibrant program of workshops, events and opportunities for creative development. Free wi-fi is available throughout the building, even when the Library is closed. Opening hours can be found on The Edge website and upcoming programming is featured at the What's On page. The Brink (cafe) on level 1 can provide you with caffeine and snacks while you indulge in your creative pursuits.
Food and drinks are allowed everywhere except in the Innovation Lab and Digital Media Lab.
At The Edge, you can find:
- The Edge Auditorium - the largest of The Edge venues, the Auditorium is a multi-function open plan venue with sprung wooden flooring, lighting rig, large projector and screen. The space is regularly used for talks, conferences, performances and exhibitions and is available for hire.
- Window Bays - with floor to ceiling windows and sweeping city views, the eleven window bays comfortably seat up to 12 people per bay. These petite spaces are perfectly suited for meetings, study groups or small presentations and workshops. You can book a bay before you arrive for your visit.
- Digital Media Lab - outfitted with designed-based computers, the lab has all you need to produce a professional piece of creative work. Software ranges from top of the line professional programs, such as the full Adobe Creative Suite, through to open source programs. You can book a computer before you arrive for your visit.
- Innovation Lab - the area is a practical, flexible working space where our Fabrication Lab is currently located. It is ideal for projects and workshops that involve building, making, hacking and engineering. The space is regularly programmed for workshops and Open Lab.
- Recording Studio - a compact sound recording studio including near-professional equipment and specialist software. It uses the latest hardware and is aimed at musicians and audio engineers. It is also suitable for voice recording for podcasting and sound design. Recording time can be booked online after completing the Recording Studio Induction. - The Brink
- Reception - located just inside the main entrance on Level 1. Visitor Service Assistants can show you around the building and assist you with bookings and enquiries.
- Mezzanine
