Level 1

  1. Talking Circle: Outdoor seating area surrounding a fire pit overlooking the Brisbane River. Part of kuril dhagun.
  2. Loris Williams Room: A space for family or community meetings, workshops, or seminars. Part of kuril dhagun.
  3. kuril dhagun: A welcoming place to learn about and celebrate First Nations culture, with showcases and activities. Enter via Infozone or Talking Circle.
  4. River Decks: An undercover outdoor space to relax and enjoy spectacular Brisbane River views.
  5. The Corner: A creative space for children under 8 and their families with programmed activities. Enter via the Infozone.
  6. Infozone: Free access to computers, Wi-Fi, printing facilities and charging stations.
  7. Level 1 Meeting Rooms: Versatile rooms ideal for workshops and presentations. Available for hire.
  8. Knowledge Walk: A covered, open-air plaza with free Wi-Fi.
  9. Pink Chairs by Cj Hendry: A public art installation from Cj's Inflatable series.

Level 2

  1. Information Collections: A quiet space to research, use computers, print and scan, and browse collections. Film viewing facilities available.
  2. Red Box: A striking architectural feature connecting levels 2 and 3, with views of the river and city. Available for hire.
  3. Poinciana Lounge: A spacious open area overlooking the Brisbane River. Available for hire.
  4. Level 2 Meeting Rooms: Free to book for members.
  5. Asia Pacific Design Library: Explore inspiring design books and magazines.
  6. slq Auditorium 2: Hosts talks, workshops, screenings and conferences. Available for hire.
  7. Queensland Terrace: One of Brisbane’s most sought-after event spaces. View tea cups and stories from the Tea & Me project. Available for hire.
  8. slq Auditorium 1: State Library's largest meeting space, used for major talks and events. Available for hire.
  9. slq Gallery: Home to State Library’s major exhibitions.
  10. Queensland Writers Centre: Supports writers to develop skills, connect with readers and build their careers.

Level 3

  1. Information Collections: Ask a librarian, find a quiet research space, use computers, print and scan, or browse collections. Our librarians can also assist with family history research. Facilities are available for film viewing and for visitors with vision impairment.
  2. Red Box: A striking architectural feature connecting levels 2 and 3, with views of the river and city. Available for hire.
  3. Family History / Micrographics
  4. Level 3 Meeting rooms: Free to book for members.
  5. Tim Fairfax Newspaper Reading Room: Relax and read regional, national and international newspapers.
  6. Music Collections
  7. The Platform: An undercover deck with views of Queensland Terrace and the city.
  8. Piano practice room: Free to book for members.

Level 4

  1. John Oxley Library Heritage Collections: A place for quiet study and research using original materials such as diaries, manuscripts, artworks and maps.
  2. Quiet study area
  3. Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame: A space celebrating significant Queensland business achievements.
  4. Lockers
  5. Level 4 meeting rooms: Free to book for members.
  6. Marica Sourris and James C Sourris AM White Gloves Room: View and interact with collection items.
  7. Australian Library of Art Showcase: Highlights from the Australian Library of Art.
  8. Talbot Family Treasures Wall: A rotating display of rare and unique collection items.
  9. Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery: Exhibitions featuring items from the Heritage Collections.
  10. Heritage Collections Learning Room: Space for workshops, talks and group research. Available for hire.
  11. Black Opium by Dr Fiona Foley: Suspended poppy heads form an infinity symbol leading to seven rooms, each exploring history, memory and politics through sculpture and photography.

Level 5

  1. Collection Preservation Wall: Discover how we care for our collections with a walk-by look at Preservation Services.
  2. slq Boardroom: Large meeting room with city and river views. Available for hire.

The Edge

  1. The Edge Auditorium: Open-plan venue with lighting rig, projector, and screen. Used for talks, conferences, performances and exhibitions. Available for hire.
  2. Window Bays: Each bay seats up to four, ideal for meetings or study groups. Free to book for members.
  3. Digital Media Lab: Equipped with industry-standard software and audio tools for design, 3D modelling, web, video and more. Free to book with membership. Free to book for members.
  4. Innovation Lab: Suitable for making, engineering, and workshops. Regularly programmed for Open Lab sessions.
  5. Recording Studio: Record and mix your own multitrack music, interviews and podcasts. Available to book for members.
