IBISWorld

By Anne Wong, Librarian | 26 May 2020

Series: Our favourite State Library eresources.

People often ask us what our most loved eresources are. Admittedly we all have a favourite, or two, or three. It’s hard to pick as there are so many wonderful State Library eresources available. In this series our Librarians and Library Technicians share with you their most favourite eresources and how they’ve been used to solve research queries.

Next in the series we look at IBISWorld, a big favourite of Librarian Anne Wong.

So why is IBISWorld so fabulous?

It provides access to Australian industry and company research reports. Also, IBISWorld now has a fresh design, with a new and improved website.

Best of all, you can access IBISWorld online from home with your free State Library membership

Access Australian Industry Reports through IBISWorld

Industry report databases are useful if you are looking for a broad view of an Australian industry.  These reports include industry snapshots, supply chains, major players, current and historical performance data, industry outlooks and more.

Through the ‘Industry Research’ menu you can access the following reports

•    Australia Industry Reports (500 industries) and
•    Australia Specialised Industry Reports (small or new industries)

Need to find information about ridesharing services in Australia for an upcoming economics assignment? Type ‘rideshare’ into the search box.

Through IBISWorld you can read about:

  • supply chain charts showing industry linkages
  • major markets
  • major players for each industry
  • industry jargon and more

Access Company Reports through IBISWorld

IBISWorld also offers access to Australian Company Reports, an analysis of the 2000 largest Australian and New Zealand companies. This includes listed and non-listed public, private, foreign owned, trusts and government businesses.

Under the menu ‘Company Research’, click on ‘Australia Company Reports’ to browse companies by industry. Alternatively, you can type a company name directly into the search bar on the IBISWorld home page, for example Qantas.

Each company profile contains directors, key personnel, balance sheet and P&L data, ownership structure as well as shareholders and key personnel. You can also find historical company information under ‘Introduction & History in the Company Details’ drop down menu.

Are you curious to know what year Qantas provided its first international passenger flight? According to this IBISWorld company profile, in 1935 Qantas operated Australia's first international passenger flight from Brisbane to Singapore.
