Borrowing from State Library collections

State Library has a range of collections available for loan by Queensland residents. Among these are general books, magazines, music scores and audio-visual items including DVDs, CDs and videos.

Some general information.

  • Loan limit - 10 items
  • Loan period – 4 weeks
  • Renewal/Maximum loan period – 12 weeks

 

It’s easy to get started.

  • Login into the online library catalogue One Search and start searching.
  • Request items for loan via the catalogue and identify if you would like to
  • Click and collect from Reception, Level 1
  • Request, view and collect from the Level 3 collection point (space booking essential)
  • Have us send the items to your public Library

 

 

Click and Collect from Reception, Level 1.

State Library is currently offering a “click and collect” service for loans. Items requested before 5pm will be available for pick up from the Welcome Desk on level 1 the following day after 11am. Items not collected after 5 days will be returned to storage.

Request, view and collect from the Level 3.

Items requested to be picked up from level 3 will be available from the collection area on Level 3, already checked out to your membership account. There are several collection delivery times each day. If you select this option, you also need to make a booking in the associated location to view/collect your item. Spaces on level 3 are bookable in three-hour blocks

  • Monday-Thursday, 10am-1pm and 2pm-8pm
  • Friday-Sunday, 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm

Send to my public library.

If you are outside the Brisbane area you can have items delivered to your local Queensland public library. When you make your request in One Search, select “Deliver to my public library” as your pickup location. Expect these loans to take between 1 and 2 weeks to arrive, possibly slightly longer to libraries in the far North or West.

Returning your loaned items.

Your loans can be returned in person during opening hours to the Welcome desk on Level 1 or by mail to this address:

Items returned or used onsite will be placed in quarantine for 72 hours and will remain on your membership account during this period before being returned to their shelf location.

eResources

State Library also has a wide range of eresources available to you, including: databases, online journals and ebooks. These are available for you to access from home. It’s all free with your State Library membership. Here are a few themed databases you might like to start with.

 

Other important information.

While our heritage collections on Level 4 are not for loan, it is possible to book a space in the John Oxley Library reading room and request collections via One Search for use onsite. Librarians are available to assist with research enquiries and access to collections.
