Book spaces

Please note: bookings access to spaces and services may be subject to change due to COVID 19 restrictions.  Please check State Library's website and social media platforms for updates. 

Find a space to suit you - whether you need peace and quiet to study or a room to hold a meeting. There's a mix of spaces - some require bookings while others are accessed following QR code 'check-in' at Reception.

Become a State Library member to book ahead.  Membership is free and you can join online. Members can update their details online.

Computers/internet

State Library members can book an individual computer/internet.

Computers are available for three sessions daily:

Monday to Thursday: 10am-2pm,  2pm–5pm and 5pm-8pm.
Friday to Sunday: 10am–2pm & 2–5pm.

Computers are also available in the Infozone for 60-minute sessions on a first-come basis. You will need to check in upon arrival.

Study spaces

Study Desks at JOL - quiet area

State Library members can book an individual study space on level 4.

Desks are available for two sessions daily (10am–1pm and 2–5pm).

Please note: Heritage Collections are not available in this area. To access these collections, please book a space in the Heritage Collections access area.

Individual study spaces are available on Level 3.  Spaces are available for three sessions daily:

Monday to Thursday: 10am-2pm,  2pm–5pm and 5pm-8pm.
Friday to Sunday: 10am–2pm & 2–5pm.

Microform and family history research:  If you require access to equipment such as the microfilm reader printer, Minolta reader printer, microfiche reader or microfilm reader, please call us on 07 3840 7810 (Mon-Fri, 9-5) to pre-arrange your visit. Alternatively you can use our Ask us service for research assistance.

If you would like to use any items from the Information Collections during your visit, please request them in One Search before your booking so they can be ready for your session. We recommend requesting your items at least one day prior to your booking.

Heritage Collections research

State Library members can access our Heritage Collections on level 4.

Spaces are available for two sessions daily (10am–1pm and 2–5pm).

Please request any collection items in One Search before your booking so they can be ready for your session. We recommend requesting your items at least one day prior to your visit.

Please note: To protect our valuable collections, food and drink, bags and pens are not permitted in this area.

The Big Voices exhibition is open now in Phillip Bacon Heritage Gallery on level 4.

The gallery is open for two sessions daily (10am–1pm and 2–5pm). Book your free ticket ahead of your visit to secure your place.

Hack the Evening

State Library members who have completed an induction can book in to work on their projects in 3x 1 hr 45 min sessions on Wednesday and Thursdays (12:00 - 1:45 pm, 2:00 - 3:45 pm, 4:00 - 5:45 pm)
