Recording studio
The Edge Recording Studio is a creative hub where stories come to life in all their forms.
Whether you're recording a podcast, producing screen audio, crafting a compelling narrative, or laying down tracks for your next music project, the studio is equipped to support your creative journey.
With professional-grade equipment, The Edge is a place for storytellers, musicians, podcasters, and creators of all kinds to explore their ideas and share their voices.
The Edge's recording studio is available to be booked by State Library members if you have completed a recording studio induction.
Access
Explore and get support from staff during Open lab at The Edge, open every Wednesday and Saturday from noon to 5 pm, and Thursdays from 1:30–8 pm. You can join our Hack the evening community meetup every Thursday from 5 pm, where staff are on hand to help you access equipment as capacity and demand permit.
While State Library is pausing standard inductions during July and August, the recording studio will remain accessible during hack the evening starting 18 June, with a specialist facilitator available to assist with short projects in 1-hour slots (first-come, first-served basis).

If you don’t have booking permissions, you can still use the studio during Hack the Evening on Thursdays from 5 pm. A specialist facilitator is available to support short projects in 1-hour, first-come, first-served sessions.
To gain booking permissions, you'll need to complete an induction.
Yes. As long as an inducted State Library member makes the booking, you can bring up to 6 people into The Edge Recording Studio. The maximum total capacity is 10 people.
Please allow up to 48 hours for your induction to be processed before booking access is enabled.
No. The room provides strong sound isolation, but it is not fully soundproof. Some external noise may still be heard, and loud sounds from inside the room can also carry outside.
