Finely Bound Exhibition

By JOL Admin | 11 October 2010

As advertised on page 29 of the October 2010 issue of Bmag the Finely Bound exhibition of hand bound books and artists books highlighting the craftsmanship of traditional and contemporary bookbinding is on display in the Australian Library of Art Showcase on level 4 of the State Library until 9 January 2011.

Finely Bound Exhibition in the Australian Library of Art Showcase.

These visually diverse collection items assembled from the holdings of the John Oxley Library and the Australian Library of Art are works which have been acquired or commissioned by the State Library and they include several works bound by our own bookbinders in the State Library's Collection Preservation Unit.

Another facet of the exhibition is a display of hand bindings produced by amateur bookbinders from the Queensland Bookbinders' Guild Inc.

The exhibition is the first to be held in the Australan Library of Art showcase on level 4 and reflects the passion of people involved in book arts in Queensland. Coinciding with the exhibition are a series of children's bookmaking workshops being coordinated in conjunction with Children and Young People's Services. There are also tours of Collection Preservation and a series of demonstrations of hand bookbinding skills by members of the Queensland Bookbinders' Guild Inc.
