Drinking to your health

It's a new coffee brand in an already saturated market. Yet beforeyouspeak has grown 260 per cent month on month since the Queensland-based company launched its product last July.

Co-founders Jaryd Terkelsen and Ash Bisset came up with the "high-performance, superfood-infused instant coffee sachet" concept, called One, by "mixing some of our own ingredients".

Among the ingredients in their Colombian Arabica coffee are turmeric and Siberian ginseng.

"One of the key pillars of the company is optimising performance and getting the most out of your day," says Bisset. "Coffee being a product or a catalyst that a lot of people use, I guess we're setting out to add to that in a performance sort of way.

"Our company tagline is 'Take your shot'. The ethos is it's all about optimising and enhancing performance".

"The high-performance coffee tagline is because it does help you to perform and get a little bit more out of your day and out of your coffee," says Terkelsen.

Both Terkelsen and Bisset have backgrounds in the fitness industry. Close to 80 per cent of their product growth has come from there. "But we're starting to move more mainstream now. We've got future products that are completely non-fitness related.

"We don't want to be known or seen as a supplement brand. We want to be known as a coffee company."

Currently, their product is stocked in about 200 stores in Australia, including sports nutrition stores, health food stores, pharmacies and gyms.
