Condoman and Lubelicious

By Tania Schafer, Librarian, State Library of Queensland | 12 July 2016

This year's Musgrave Park Fun Day during NAIDOC Week was alive with people, music, stalls and rides. One of the highlights during the day was the arrival of Condoman and Lubelicious.

Condoman is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander superhero who was first introduced in 1987 to promote safe sex. He was created by Aunty Gracelyn Smallwood and several other Aboriginal Sex Health workers in Townsville.

Condoman's message “Don’t Be Shame Be Game” has reached a generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This iconic character is represented in State Library of Queensland's collection.
