Brisbane Marriage Equality Rally, 2017
On September 10, 2017, thousands turned out for a rally in Brisbane's CBD in support of marriage equality.
The Brisbane Marriage Equality Rally was in response to the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey, a national survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics to gauge public support for the legalisation of same-sex marriage.
The results of the survey, released on November 15, 2017, found 61.6% of respondents were in favour of legalising same-sex marriage. From December 9, same-sex marriage became legal in Australia with the commencement of the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017.
