David Darling
David Darling arrived in Brisbane in February 1978 and attended a 4ZZZ Joint Effort at UQ that same night. A few months later, he joined 4ZZZ’s promotions team alongside Peter Williamson. Recognising a lack of venues for bands playing original music, David and Peter secured The Queens Hotel for live gigs, launching on May 24, 1978, with Skyhooks and Boys Next Door. David and Peter founded Pirahna Bros Promotions, managing gigs at Festival Hall, Cloudland, and many others. David later continued as DDP (David Darling Promotions), adding a record label, Flat Records, and expanding to North Queensland tours. David has remained active in Brisbane’s music scene, rejoining 4ZZZ’s board (2013–2014) and helping revive Joint Efforts. His contributions have been featured in the Stranded documentary, ABC’s Rock Arena, and other publications.

Jane Grigg
Best known as a DJ and organiser bringing funky eclectic vibes to clubs, dance parties and radio since the early 80s, Jane has worked across music, media and arts sectors from grassroots community to board level in Australia and overseas. Employers include 4ZZZ-FM, ABC, BSkyB UK, BBC, SBS, BMG UK, QMusic, QPAC, museums, galleries, universities and councils. Jane DJed and co-promoted Queensland’s first dance party series; got the first Qld government grant to run a music industry training and development program; got the first ever permission to do a dance party/alternative music event at the RNA Showgrounds; and initiated the campaign that won the protection of established Fortitude Valley venues from being shut down by new neighbour noise complaints.
