About the exhibition
The National Photographic Portrait Prize 2023 (NPPP) is a touring exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery. It was established by the National Portrait Gallery in 2007 and attracts thousands of entries each year.
Open to established, emerging and amateur practitioners, the NPPP celebrates Australian photographers, and the power of photographic portraiture to communicate something beyond the appearance of subjects – their quirks, flaws, strengths, or vulnerabilities.
Out of 2,300 entries, 47 finalists were chosen to be displayed in the touring exhibition. See the winning photographs in slq Gallery until 7 July 2024.
This exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, an Australian Government Initiative, aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.
The NPPP is a beloved national prize that supports the Australian photographic community and enlarges our collective experience of the Australian people, from the well-known and celebrated to local heroes and identities. It is a pillar of the gallery's travelling exhibition program, which sees many rich and varied examples of photographic portraiture shared with audiences across the country.
