Robert Cyril Vickers was a 20-year old butcher from Alderley who enlisted as a member of the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment and embarked from Sydney in 1915 on board the HMAT Berrima A35 for Egypt. He returned to Australia on 13 March 1919 and died in Brisbane on 1 July 1961. State Library has 148 photos from Vickers’ photographic collection depicting daily life of his regiment. The photographs allow us rare glimpses of events for the troops stationed in Egypt.
