Windsor Castle Estate, [Holland Park West], 1884 (Map of the Week)

State Library of Queensland has an extensive collection of historical maps of Queensland, some of which have been digitised and can be viewed online.
This real estate map from 1884 advertises 217 allotments of land for sale at the Windsor Castle Estate, today located in the Brisbane suburb of Holland Park West.

The allotments were situated on Logan Road, Castle Hill Street, Buckland Street, Queen Street (now Brodie Street), Ellen Street (now Gower Street), Alice Street (now Barton Street) and Albert Street (now Hockings Street).
Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.
"The Windsor Castle Estate comprising 200 allotments. Areas up to two acres each. Splendid chocolate soil! Abundance of firewood! North-easterly aspect! Sea Breezes! Easy access to the City!" (Brisbane Courier, May 31, 1884)

A public auction was to be held at the ground on the afternoon of 31 May 1884. The results of the sale were published in the Brisbane Courier newspaper.
"Mr John F. Buckland reports a most successful sale of the Windsor Castle Estate, Logan-road , on Saturday last. The company was numerous and the bidding spirited, allotments fronting the Logan-road selling from £6 10s to £15 10s each, 159 allotments out of 217 were sold, realising £1009 13s 6d". (Brisbane Courier, 2 June 1884)
