As part of National Volunteer Week, we want to acknowledge the incredible impact volunteers have in building thriving and inclusive communities and libraries.
Library volunteers have fun while learning new skills, making new friends, and enjoying a sense of purpose through contributing to the enjoyment of library visitors, and supporting library activities.
Across the state there are hundreds of library volunteers involved in diverse and exciting ways:
-
Ipswich Libraries volunteers respond to Santa letters and produce baby book bags for all new babies born in Ipswich
-
Gladstone City libraries’ volunteers assist at events, shelve books and tidy the library, as well as host a quarterly book sale
-
With an extraordinary 266 volunteers, Sunshine Coast libraries offer many program choices for their volunteers such as Seed Library Volunteers who sort, label and care for the seed collections, Family History Volunteers who assist members with family history resources and research, as well as Home Library Volunteers who select and transport books to members who are unable to physically come to the library.
-
Logan and Noosa libraries volunteers support adult literacy by tutoring those from a non-English background or English speakers wanting to improve their reading and writing abilities.
Volunteers provide invaluable support for libraries and give back to the community while gaining valuable experiences. Whether shelving books or assisting with program delivery, their contributions enrich lives and strengthen communities, proving that libraries truly thrive through the power of people.
