Gael Newton and Paul Costigan recently visited the State Library of Queensland and met with Christene Drewe and Joan Bruce, Librarians from the Australian Library of Art, and Siganto Foundation Artists' Book Research Fellows Victoria Cooper and Doug Spowart.
Due to Gael’s interest in photography she was shown two books from the Australian Library of Art’s artists’ book collection – Helen Douglas’ Illiers Combray (with sound recording by Zoë Irvine) and Peter Lyssiotis' book A Gardner at Midnight. Both books have been a part of Victoria Cooper and Doug Spowart’s research interests at the library.
Gael was the Senior Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Australia and now works on national and international projects relating to photography, art museum practices, collection appraisal, development and placement.
