In our commitment to make our digitised collections more accessible, SLQ is the first public library and the first arts institution to make their content available on DigiVol, the crowdsourced online transcription platform hosted by Australian Museum. Diaries, letters and record books are some of the projects available for you to transcribe online.
Opening up State Library collections for people to transcribe in DigiVol supports a culture of discovery and inquiry of traditional library material and provides the environment for those who have knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for transcribing original materials, but who are remote from State Library and currently unable to volunteer onsite.
The transcriptions will be included in State Library’s catalogue, One Search and will give greater exposure of the hidden stories in our original material.

State Library joins Harvard University, the Smithsonian Institute and CSIRO as institutions around the world using DigiVol to increase access to their collections.
Digitised journals and letters sharing the Queensland experience of the First World War are available to be transcribed by members of the community, as part of the Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation program. Volunteers can transcribe text from digitised issues of the Red Cross magazine (1915-1919) and the handwritten uncensored diaries in the First World War collection of Sergeant Louis Fudge.
Other SLQ collections to feature in DigiVol include the 1898 diary kept by Henri Gilbert, during the Australian leg of his journey walking around the world; and the 1893-95 Henry Mitchell diary and his experiences sailing between Cooktown and Port Moresby aboard the Merrie England.
