Good article, thanks MylesBTW -- photo 8 "Wooden boat being used ..." is looking up Edward Street to Spring Hill from Queen Street -- Finney Isles at left (now the site of Queen's Plaza) and Courier Building at right (now the site of the Commonwealth Bank)
The steamer in Queen Street is “The Foam" a 6 H.P. Tug Boat. My great, great grandmother, Mrs. Wilhelmine Schwemer of Prospect Street, Kangaroo Point owned this boat around 1909. An article in the Courier-Mail for Thursday 19 May 1938 mentioned that during the 1893 flood the crew of the steam launch “Foam” steamed her up Edward Street, into the vestibule of the old Courier Building at the corner of Queen and Edwards Streets where her photograph was taken. This print was sketched from the original photo.
