Walter Taylor Bridge, which spans the Brisbane River and connects the suburbs of Indooroopilly and Chelmer, was opened in 1936. The bridge is now heritage-listed and has a firm place in Brisbane residents' hearts. The idea of living in one of the apartments either end of the bridge has continued to excite people's curiosity.
Starting this weekend (26 - 27 October) Brisbane City Council will be conducting public tours of Walter Taylor Bridge from 10am to 3pm. You can book by phoning the Brisbane City Council call centre on 3403 8888,
Conservators at State Library have recently restored a sketch of the bridge in its proposal stages. The sketch is was created in 1931, five years before it was opened. The sketch notes W. Taylor as "Engineer & Contractor" and it is signed by D. Webster. Note the difference in appearance between the first image, taken before the treatment and the second image, taken after the conservation team's hard work.
