The Demolition Show at the Observatory Gallery
The State Library has recently made available a fabulous collection of materials relating to an exhibition held at the "Observatory Gallery" in Brisbane. “The Demolition Show” was an exhibition curated by “John Stafford” in 1986 to mark the demise of the relatively short lived Observatory artist-run space and the area that surrounded it, in Little Roma Street. The show originally comprised of essays, political theatre, film, static installation and performance work.
The Demolition Show ~ A Documentation
The collaborative exhibition by artists associated with a vibrant artist culture flourishing in Brisbane at that time includes works that use mixed media, collage, paintings, videorecording and photography.

“ephemeral traces: Brisbane’s artist-run scene in the 1980s” is an exciting exhibition which includes material from the Demolition Show and is currently showing at The University of Queensland Art Museum. Curated by Peter Anderson, the exhibition opened on the 2nd April and runs until 26th June 2016.
Anderson a past Siganto Foundation Research Fellow, studied the artist ephemera and archival materials held in State Library’s, Australian Library of Art collection, which provided a research basis for the ephemeral traces exhibition.
