On Tuesday 10 December The Honourable Glen Elmes MP, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs and Minister assisting the Premier and The Honourable Ian Walker MP, Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts attended the State Library of Queensland to jointly announce $7.4 million of funding for Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation. This is one of three legacy projects supported by the Queensland Government to commemorate the Anzac Centenary from 2014 to 2018.
Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation is a five-year program of legacy initiatives that will engage with communities across regional Queensland.
One hundred collections of WWI local treasures will be digitised and loaded onto an interactive timeline as well as the personal recollections of the children and grandchildren of WWI veterans living in diverse areas of the State. Activities will culminate in spectacular projections of WWI images at the end of the commemorative period.
Janette Wright, Chief Executive Officer and State Librarian said the following, "SLQ is determined that this project provide a tangible opportunity to demonstrate how we – galleries, libraries, museums, archives, performing arts and creative industries - can work together to deliver lasting outcomes for Queenslanders."
