Preservation workshop held at Caboolture Library

By JOL Admin | 5 March 2012

On 22nd Feb 2012 Gajendra Rawat, Paper Conservator from the State Library conducted a workshop to the public on ‘Preserving Your Family History Collections’ at Caboolture Library. Twelve participants attended the workshop. The workshop included a talk on how to preserve the family history collection especially books, documents, photographs and art on paper. The presentation covered environmental parameters, storage conditions and handling procedures to preserve and increase the life of collection items.

This was followed by conservation clinic where advice was given on preservation of the collection items brought by the public. Information leaflets were handed out on different preservation topics.

The workshop was very successful which was evident from the comments given by the participants on evaluation forms. Some of the comments were

'very happy with this talk, could we please have more'
'the class session was well organised'
'it is wonderful to have these opportunities on our doorstep, thank you'

This workshop is part of our strategic planning for community connections to Queensland Memory.
