In 2003 a group of Australian mates, inspired by the women's health movement, noted that there was a need to help men engage more with their own health issues. And so Movember was born; a month-long celebration of the moustache, helping to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues.
The funds raised in Australia support equally the two biggest health issues men face – prostate cancer and male mental health through the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.
State Library has brought together a fabulous set of photographs from our collection that celebrate the moustache, in recognition of the work of the Movember Foundation.
