The Moustache is king!

By Margaret Warren | 2 November 2012

In 2003 a group of Australian mates, inspired by the women's health movement, noted that there was a need to help men engage more with their own health issues. And so Movember was born; a month-long celebration of the moustache, helping to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues.

The funds raised in Australia support equally the two biggest health issues men face – prostate cancer and male mental health through the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the national depression initiative.

State Library has brought together a fabulous set of photographs from our collection that celebrate the moustache, in recognition of the work of the Movember Foundation. We believe the moustache truly is king in these photos. You can see the all our 2012 Movember moustaches on our Flickr Commons photostream, but here is a sample of some of the best. Enjoy!
