#Madetoday Profile: Recording with Rory Price
By kjohnston | 5 November 2025
Meet guitarist, singer and songwriter, Rory Price. From using the Recording Studio to creating music videos in the Digital Media Lab, Rory has been using The Edge's facilities to further his creative practice.

What brought you to The Edge?
I attended an ‘Audio at the Edge’ meetup to network with other musicians and/or producers. It's there that I learned about the Recording Studio and the opportunity to use it after an Induction. I knew that was an opportunity to grab! I hadn’t seen anything like this anywhere else in the world, and I had an album’s worth of music I wanted to record and release. It was a no brainer to do the Induction and get recording.
Tell us about your background as an artist/maker/designer?
I am a singer guitarist songwriter originally from England, combining solo performances, teaching, and touring in original bands. In 2022 I decided to uproot everything, buy a travel guitar and a backpack and leave England with a one way ticket to the Dominican Republic with plans to keep traveling until funds ran out.
While traveling I reflected and wrote autobiographical songs about my authentic self that I felt people could relate to: from our best days ‘Living my best life’ to our hardest days 'Goodbye’.

What tools or processes do you use in your practice?
When I’m writing it’s mostly just me and my guitar at first. I like space alone to be vulnerable, especially when writing the lyrics. Once I have some lyrics I like to hand-write them. It feels more raw and connected. Then I turn to the recording software to layer the guitar and vocals with other instruments and fill the sound out.
What are some of The Edge resources you have used?
I have mostly used the Recording Studio. The microphones, computers, and software have been essential. Almost all of my songs being released this year and next have been recorded at The Edge using the Numann 107 mic.
The main technology I use at The Edge besides the Recording Studio is computer power in the Digital Media Lab: engaging with DAW (Digital Audio workstations) like Logic pro and Ableton Live, as well as video and photo editing software like Premiere Pro and Photoshop. There's so much that goes into the music beyond just playing.
What is one of your most significant achievements in your career so far?
From performing at a festival with 10,000 people, to watching my own students start touring in bands, being brave enough to travel solo with my guitar, and now releasing my original songs - it is really hard to choose which is the most significant. More than one singular event, I think it might be the amount of connection I have been able to make with others through my music.
When someone feels like they're not alone when they resonate with a song, or leave feeling motivated and ‘unbeatable’ - it’s all about the connection and real emotions.

Growing social media, tips and tricks or, ignore the hype and concentrate on your art?
This is such a hard battle - I feel every musician and creative struggles with this. I feel if all I do is focus on social media I forgot to focus on my art. And if all I do is focus on my art no one knows it exists.
I believe the best method is patience in finding the audience. Start by focusing on the art. Know your why, your message, your brand, make great art that is aligned with that and focus on it feeling great to you. Then once you are comfortable that you are making what is in line to you, then you can start to showcase it on social media. I tend to stay away from hype and trends unless they align with my why/message/brand.
Any suggested groups to join or online meet ups or people to follow?
As a musician I would suggest going to open mic nights to meet other musicians. You’ll gain stage confidence, you’ll be able to adapt your craft without the pressure of paid gigs or long sets, and you’ll be able to meet other musicians from all backgrounds.
From recording and producing, meetups at The Edge are a great place to learn tricks and tips and be around a supportive group of like-minded people with ranges of experience and styles. You can understand each other, know how to best support each other and grow as a team.
Ideal collaboration or project you would like to work on?
I recently finished a collaboration project at The Edge. I wrote a song called ‘Do I Miss You’ and asked an amazing singer I met at an open mic night, Kaia Anne, to join me - she was perfect for the song. We recorded the song at The Edge, it was produced by James North, then we came back to The Edge to film scenes for the music video. These were then edited on the Mac computers in the Digital Media Lab. The song was released August 2025.
I enjoyed this project so much. I would love to work with more singers/musicians. I am currently writing a song with another singer, but I'm not ready to release details on that one just yet.

What’s coming up for you creatively?
I have completed the ‘Authentically Me’ album and I am now releasing these one per month throughout 2025 and 2026. The first track is a collaboration called “Do I Miss You” in August, then I released “Unbeatable” in September and “Goodbye” in October. I will continue with one a month until May 2026.
I am also shifting from guitar teaching alone to musician mentoring, to help with song writing, home recording, branding and stage craft. I will still teach guitar but would love to focus on more original artists also.
