Launch of ReTold – Stories from the Torres Strait

By JOL Admin | 5 August 2010

On Sunday 12 September the launch of ReTold will be held to thank all the participants of this exciting and worthwhile project.

Coordinated by linguist Leonora Adidi, Re-Told is a collection of on-line stories gathered in partnership with Torres Strait Islander language speakers and community members living in mainland Queensland.

In the early part of 2010, members of the Torres Strait Islander communities selected stories from Margaret Lawrie's Myths and Legends of Torres Strait for re-telling in their own dialect and in their way.  The stories were captured by filmmaker Sarah Scragg and made into short stories.

The Re-Told collection of stories (including transcripts, translations and artwork created for the project) will be available on-line at the State Library website in late August.
