John Henry BAKER #1002

John Henry BAKER, 3rd Pioneer Battalion.
Following training at Enoggera, John was assigned to the 3rd Pioneer Battalion and embarked for overseas on HMAT Demosthenes 20 May 1916. His war service was interrupted with a bout of mumps requiring hospitalisation prior to re-joining his unit in February 1917.
Four months later Private Baker was killed in action on 27 June 1917, at Ploegsteert, Belgium and was buried in Kandahar Farm Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium.
Brother Victor Roy Baker, #4146 2nd Infantry Battalion, died of wounds, self inflicted 6 May 1917; brother Wilfred Ernest Butcher #1928A 25th Infantry Battalion, was also killed in action, 18 July 1918.
