Finding your Ancestors

By JOL Admin | 16 September 2010

In August Queensland State Archives, National Archives and the State Library of Queensland conducted a combined seminar tackling the popular topic: Finding your ancestors.

The seminar was held at the State Library of Queensland with each organisation highlighting the range of records and services available online and onsite.  While the three presenters focussed on the resource strengths of each collection, the seminar reinforced the need to gather information from a number of sources when undertaking family history research.

A practical example used through the seminar included sources about the DOLDING family. Queensland State Archives and National Archives incorporated different examples from Shipping and Immigration files and Queensland State Library explored relevant notices and obituaries from newspaper sources.

Document used in the seminar from the Queensland State Archives:

Certificate of Identity for Jessie Dolding.
