Real estate map for Everton Park Estate, Brisbane, 1885. John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland

This real estate map from 1885 advertises 231 allotments of land for sale at the Everton Park Estate in Brisbane.

The allotments were situated along Griffith Street, Burwood Road, Brook Street, Gordon Parade, Everton Terrace, McIlwraith Street, Little Street and Corinth Street. All of Corinth Street and part of Little Street and McIwraith Street are now occupied by Teralba Park.

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.

"The Everton Park Estate is the best suburb of Brisbane. The healthiest position near Brisbane. The most convenient as to access to the city, as omnibuses run hourly...Another great advantage is the size of the allotments, all being quarter-acres and half-acres and all being free from gullies, with no waste ground." (The Telegraph, 28 August 1885, p.6)

A public auction was held at the site on the afternoon of 5 September, 1885. The results of the sale were published in the Brisbane Courier newspaper.

"Messrs G.T. Bell and Co. report a most successful sale on Saturday last of the Everton Park Estate, Enoggera. The company was numerous and bidding fairly spirited. Every lot offered found a bona fide purchaser. One hundred and twenty-seven lots realised £3085 10s. The balance of the estate will be sold privately or by auction at an early date." (Brisbane Courier, 7 September 1885, p.4)

From the 1960s to the 1970s, Frank and Eunice Corley drove the suburban streets of Queensland in their pink Cadillac, taking photographs of houses and selling them to homeowners. A database containing over 61,000 photographs can now be searched and viewed online. There are 871 photographs for the suburb of Everton Park.
