The Edge’s recording studio underwent a refresh in late 2025. We have removed old equipment, added new equipment, updated the operating system and software. The core goal of this project is to make the gear and space more approachable to new users and continue to facilitate a wide range of tracking and audio production projects, including greater support for our podcast producers!
We are lucky to have a nice combination of digital ins and outs as well as some locally made warmth in the form of the JLM audio 500 series modules located at the top of the desk. Lets dive straight in!

In with the new
We have planted the seeds for a small eurorack garden of synthetic delights. As an initial offering, which integrates well with our analogue studio resident synth, the Moog Grandmother, we are slowly building a little patchable system for the hardware heads. This 26HP case, which was printed on the 3D printers at The Edge has a humble Behringer Brains which is based on the open-source Mutable Plaits modules by esteemed synth designer Émilie Gillet.

In the coming months, we will explore new ways that the studio can be used to synchronise with external hardware and DAWS, so keep an eye out for the upcoming blog posts. In addition to these small additions to the studio, we have upgraded the Master interface to the MOTU 16A.
We have additional lineup inputs on the Behringer ADA8200. The ADA8200 is great for instruments, mics, and multi-track configurations that call for phantom power and independent gain control per channel.
We also have all of the 500 series JLM gear pre-patched and accessible via the patch bay. Keep an eye out for additional didactic materials in the coming months.
A few other notable I/O updates
DENON Bluetooth receiver, accessible via the patch bay. Great for reference tracks and good times.
New labels and didactics!
Over the next few months, we will continue to make minor adjustments and documentation so that everyone can get more acquainted with what is on offer.
Podcasting +

In our efforts to expand access to recording resources, we have also invested in a standalone recording interface, the RØDECaster Pro II Integrated Audio Production Studio. This is a perfect interface to embark on your first pod, and a completely functional audio interface for recording hardware synths and in a pinch acoustic instrument. The RODE Caster Pro II, has independent inputs and headphones. It can be connected to a laptop via USB-C.
We have also added a foldable table, so you can sit down with your guests and undertake interviews and become the next YouTube star!

Bangers from the SLQ Collection

This Image from the John Oxley Library upstairs on level 4 captures a moment from a Brisbane danceparty around 2003. In the physical and online collections there are so many rare gems. Over the next few iterations of the recording studio blog, we will be exploring the people and places which have been pivotal to sculpting Brisbane's music scene. This photo Dancer at a dance party, Brisbane, around 2003 (0002-0009a) by Photographer Marc Wright is part of a collection of nightlife and reverie.
