Drysllwyn Estate, Auchenflower 1920 (Map of the Week)

This real estate map from 1920 advertises land for sale at the Drysllwyn Estate, located in the Brisbane suburb of Auchenflower. The allotments were situated along Park Avenue and Dixon Street.

The auction was scheduled to take place on 8 May 1920. Extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.

"Absolutely the pick of the Auchenflower district. Adjoining the residence of William Davies Esq…Trams pass the estate and railway station within two minutes' walk." (The Telegraph, 6 May 1920, p.12)

From the 1960s to the 1970s, Frank and Eunice Corley drove the suburban streets of Queensland in their pink Cadillac, taking photographs of houses and selling them to homeowners. A database containing over 61,000 photographs can now be searched and viewed online. There are 358 photographs for the suburb of Auchenflower.
