Drysdale Estate, Bundamba, Ipswich, 1913 (Map of the Week)

This real estate map from 1913 advertises 164 allotments of land for sale at the Drysdale Estate, Bundamba in the city of Ipswich. The allotments were situated along Carberry Street, Bird Street, Wall Street, Law Street, Bognuda Street, Vale Street, Morris Street (now Perrett Street), Granville Street (now Davis Street) and Highfield Street (now Boundary Street).

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in the Queensland Times (Ipswich) newspaper.

“Grand elevation. Charming views. Splendid soil, Reliable train service. A rare chance to speculate, and secure those splendid profits for which our estates are famous.” (Queensland Times, October 24, 1913)

A public auction was held at the site on the afternoon of October 25, 1913. The Queensland Times newspaper reported the results of the sale –

"E. Bostock and Sons, auctioneers and surveyors, report having held a very highly successful auction sale of the Drysdale Estate, Bundamba, on the land, on Saturday afternoon last. There was a large attendance of good bidders. 51 allotments being sold for a total of £978 (over $114,000 today) to the following purchasers: - Mrs Phoebe Roberts, Mrs A. Tait, Messrs F.W. Whitehouse, Geo Green, F.G. Cordingley, T.A. Warrell, P. Surawaki, A. Dobbie, James Williams, Wm. Noble, David Nunn sen., Patrick O'Hara, J.D. Jones, John E. West, P. Burgess, W.S. Face, T. Massey, F.C. Jordan, W.A. Darker, D. Petie, D. Williams, W.S. Shearer, E.E. Bristow and Thos. Hindley."
