This couple flew around the world to knock on a door - it worked

This couple once simply owned a men’s hair salon in Bondi Junction, but now they’re behind an international haircare brand with a bright future.

“We were running a men’s haircare salon in Bondi and couldn’t find a product specifically for men that we wanted to stock in our salon. So we set out to create one,” Aimee and Patrick Kidd explained.

After slogging away at it for eight years, Patricks is now being sold by retailers around the world including David Jones, Mr Porter Harrods, Harvey Nichol’s, Selfridge’s and Neiman Marcus. There are eight products in the range, which retail for up to $60 each.

The potential for growth on the Mr Porter platform alone is phenomenal. It launched in 2010 as a global high-end menswear e-tailer and has 2.5 million unique visits each month and ships to over 170 counties. In 2015, it recorded 300% growth in sales of male beauty and grooming products.

“We followed a very deliberate strategy to grow and maintain a really premium brand that was above anything else on the market. We didn’t want to flood the market to maintain the exclusive feel we were going for.” Read more
