Bursaries and volunteer opportunities at NLS8
By administrator | 27 February 2017
NLS8 is the New Librarians’ Symposium and it’s a low-cost, high-value inclusive and dynamic 3 day event of keynotes, workshops, panels and speakers geared towards students and new library and information sector professionals. NLS brings together the future leaders of the Australian LIS industry to learn, discuss and influence the future of libraries and cultural institutions with a theme this year of DIY Library Career.
NLS8 is where attendees will take control through practical hands-on learning, fresh ideas, passionate speakers and challenging conversations, where you will be energised and will take useable skills home. It is important to keep on learning and shaping your career as a GLAMR professional no matter where you work or what your career goals are. We know that you want to expand your knowledge beyond library studies, and beyond day to day roles, and we know that you want the gaps in your knowledge and experience that NLS8 would like to empower you to fill those gaps.
Get involved!
Why not apply for a bursary or be a volunteer? There are around opportunities to get a free registration to attend NLS8 - go ahead and apply! You deserve it and it will look great on your resume!
A fantastic group of enthusiastic volunteers is required to make NLS8 the best experience it can be for delegates. Volunteering at a friendly symposium like NLS8 can be an excellent way of gaining experience, valuable networks and kick-starting your list of accomplishments while studying. More details here.
Bursaries
There’s also a bursary to support an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student or early career professional in the LIS/GLAMR sector. More details here.
Two student bursaries to attend NLS8 are being offered to LIS & GLAMR students on behalf of our keynote speakers. These bursaries are open to any students currently enrolled in any LIS/GLAMR course in Australia or internationally; i.e. library and information studies, museum studies, records management, teacher librarian, or archival studies. More details here.
ALIA New Generation Advisory Committee is also offering a bursary to attend NLS8! New generation students and information professionals are invited to create a record of your thoughts – in any format you like – about where the Library and Information world will be in 2037. The winning entry will be included in a time capsule, to be opened on ALIA’s 100th birthday. More details here.
