Bulimba Hill Estate, 1888. John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland

State Library of Queensland has an extensive collection of historical maps of Queensland, some of which have been digitised and can be viewed online.

This real estate map from 1888 advertises 190 allotments of land for sale at Bulimba Hill Estate in the Brisbane suburb of Bulimba. The allotments were situated along Tennyson Street, Wordsworth Street, Shakespeare Street, Cowper Street, Hood Street, an unnamed road (now Henderson Street), Government Road (now Apollo Road) and Thompson Street (which no longer exists).

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.

A public auction was held at the site on the afternoon of July 21, 1888. The Telegraph newspaper reported the results of the sale.

"Mr G.T. Bell reports a sale of allotments in Bulimba Hill Estate on Saturday afternoon, and although the biddings were dull, the result was the sale of 80 lots at an average of £68 16s 4d, for a total of £5,505 10s." (The Telegraph, July 23, 1888)
