The Apartment House book

Join us for the launch of a new Australian design book which celebrates the best of higher-density living.

The APDL Design Lounge will play host to the official Brisbane launch of The Apartment House with editors Katelin Butler and Cameron Bruhn. Also, Alice Hampson will share her insights on the Queensland context of apartment living; and architect Liam Proberts (Bureau Proberts) and client Cam Ginardi (G.B.W Developments) will present Silt Apartments, which is featured in The Apartment House.

As the dream of home ownership in Australia is updated the detached house on a quarter acre block with a Hills Hoist has become an outdated ideal. A new generation of owners is foregoing the big backyard in favour of the convenience, sustainability and affordability of inner-city life in a townhouse or apartment. From suburban duplexes to medium-density apartment blocks and vertical living in twin towers, The Apartment House explores some of the best examples of contemporary multi-residential projects.

Whether newly built or renovated, each project demonstrates the importance of the relationship between density and amenity, whilst showcasing the benefits of living in closer proximity to one another. This exciting collection of homes speaks to the 21st Century lifestyle where smaller and closer is the new dream.

The Apartment House updates the great Australian dream. The newly built and reimagined Australian homes in this volume reveal the desirability of living in closer proximity to one another.’
