Amazon Prime customers in Australia to be hit with two-day delivery times

By administrator | 21 June 2018

Australian consumers signing up for Amazon Prime will have to wait two days for delivery rather than the same-day or next-day service offered in most countries.

Amazon's premium offering launched in Australia on Tuesday with a monthly subscription of $6.99 or $59 a year, and a $4.99 a month introductory offer. On the US site, an annual membership is $US119 ($160) a year, with free same-day and one-day delivery to major cities when spending over $US35.

The launch of Amazon Prime comes after the ecommerce giant recently blocked Australians from shopping on its international websites blaming the government's new GST rules on online purchases.

Amazon Prime members will get faster delivery with no minimum purchase on Amazon's domestic selection of eligible products.

Their subscription also includes access to streaming service Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Prime Reading, gaming service Twitch Prime and the ability to shop via voice on Alexa-enabled devices.

The ecommerce giant claims Amazon Prime will reach nearly 90 per cent of Australians in two business days with more areas added over time.

Two-day delivery will be available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and regional cities including Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Gold Coast, Gosford, Newcastle, Shepparton-Mooroopna, Toowoomba and Wagga Wagga. Read more
