ALA welcomes its first Siganto Foundation Fellow.

 Peter Anderson has been appointed as the first Siganto Foundation Fellow to undertake research in the Australian Library of Art. 

Peter, a Queensland educated, Melbourne based freelance writer, curator and researcher has published numerous articles and papers in newspapers, magazines and professional journals. He has worked regularly as an art critic and commentator for newspapers and arts journals, including The Courier Mail, Art Monthly, and Eyeline and has taught in arts and cultural studies at QUT, Brisbane Institute of TAFE, Deakin University, Griffith University and Queensland College of Art. He curated the touring exhibition The Artist's Books of Robert Jacks, for Bendigo Art Gallery in 2009.

Peter will be researching art in Brisbane in the 1980s focussing on artist run spaces. He says...

“In essence, it is about ‘those that stayed’ ” (at a time when many artists were leaving a Queensland viewed as conservative and reactionary) “but more than this, it is about the way the local scene changed during this period as a result of larger institutional shifts (the opening of the new Queensland Art Gallery in 1982, or the consolidation of the Institute of Modern Art after a decade, for example), but also from the bottom up, through the rise of the artist run space”.
