2010 has been an exciting year for Girl Guides as they celebrate the Centenary of Guiding. In formal recognition of the centenary, the Australian government officially declared 2010 as the Year of the Girl Guide.
As the Guides celebrate '100 years of changing lives', here at the John Oxley Library we are helping ensure that the long and proud history of Guides in Queensland is preserved. Library collections hold numerous items documenting the history of guiding in Queensland. Picture Queensland has several historical images of some Guide buildings, people and gatherings, including this image below of a group of Girl Guides at Warwick, around 1930.
Other items held in John Oxley Library collections include newspaper clippings about the Guides, the Jubilee history booklet Guiding in Queensland 1910-1960; and issues of Coo-ee: the official magazine of the Girl Guides Association of Queensland from 1949 through to 1980.
We also recently captured the Girl Guides Queensland web site in PANDORA - Australia’s web archive. This means that the current version of the website with today’s information will be preserved and available for future generations.
