M y Mum grew up in the original Prince of Wales Hotel opposite Michelmores main warehouse on the river bank. She told me she & Mick Hodge (of the engineering firm on the other side of the river) used to play amongst the pylons underneath the store. Two of her uncles worked at that store, and the graziers & farmers who bought everything from a pin to an elephant (well almost) used to stay at the hotel, of which my Nana (great gran) was the licencee......M A Rebetzke. I never saw the original POW but do remember well Michelmores, Shepherds Anvil Store & Hossacks, shipping providors, premises all situated in River Street.thanks for the memories. :-)

I have just been going through my late mothers possessions & came across a small china plate with the photo of the Ambulance Building, Mackay on the front. Judging by the cars in the photo could be around 1920s. This is a Shelly Plate made in England. The inscription is : Made in England expressly for J Michelmore & Co Mackay. Can anyone give me any information on this plate.Thanks.

Edmund Dimmock one of the original partners in J Michelmore & Co Pty Ltd was a brother of my Great grand father George Dimmock who was Mayor of Mackay on two occasions. I would like to contact any descendants of Edmund or George. Thanks

My name is Irene Jaques née Tandridge. I am doing research into staff working at Michelmores in 1933. Can anyone help? I have a list of names and would like to know more. Thank you.

I worked in the the Hardware department in the early sixties. It was my first job , and I began as a messaggee boy, then back hardware, then the back counter. The Hardware boss was Kevin Nelson, but my boss was Bill Rosier. I hav e only happy memories of working with that company. My name was Malcolm McKerihan, but they nicknamed me paddles, because of my large feet.

I worked there in 1956 in the hardware dept. my boss was Neville Baker.Don Brown was front counter boss along with Ken McKenzie, Bill Rosier, Don Hanning,Nevile Hunt,Dave Mortenson and many others in other depts. as well.I also was a copher aged 14.
