Hack the evening

Join this weekly meetup for makers, designers, fabricators and anyone interested in learning new skills or getting hands-on with some of the digital and fabrication equipment at The Edge.  

No equipment bookings are required, and if you haven't had a chance to run through an induction yet, then just head along to Open lab on a Thursday evening and have a chat to staff, who can help you with your project if the equipment is available.  

We occasionally run community projects, designing and building with project outcomes in mind. Heading along to Hack the evening is a great chance to get to know what type of projects you can undertake at The Edge.  

Available resources include:  

• Two laser cutters  

• 3D printers  

• Vinyl cutter  

• Sewing machines & overlocker  

• Soldering stations  

• Basic hand tools and fix it kits  

• Digital cameras - request from staff  

• VR headsets - request from staff  

• Embroidery machine - request from staff  

How do I find it? Hack the evening happens across our Digital Media Lab, Innovation lab and outside The Brink cafe at The Edge.  

February project

Content making comes in many forms and street magazines have been a key culture communicator for many years. 

During February to coincide with State Library’s Streets of your town: mapping Brisbane’s street press talk, The Edge is diving into the world of print and publishing and the art of zine-making. 

Join us at Hack the evening throughout February to work on a collaborative collage and zine project, focused on the culture of Queensland. Just bring yourself along on any Thursday night and we'll have some scissors, glue, magazines and other items for you to use to create your own Zine!

Open lab hours 

Open lab sessions are: Wednesday 1:30 pm – 8.00 pm, Thursday 1:30 – 8:00 pm and Saturday 12 noon – 5:00 pm 

Please note, equipment bookings are required for all Open lab sessions except at Hack the Evening on Thursdays from 5 – 8 pm.
