Culture Love: Storytelling and weaving workshop

Culture Love will be showcased in kuril dhagun, located on level 1 of State Library of Queensland, from 5 July to 12 October 2025.

About the workshop

Uncle Brian Whap, Torres Strait Islander Elder and cultural educator will be sharing First Nations stories and engaging in conversation through a hands-on weaving and story-telling workshop, designed especially for children and families.

Inspired by the original Culture Love program, the workshop encourages the next generation to connect with culture, express their stories and celebrate community.

About the Culture Love showcase

From 2009 to 2013, State Library of Queensland presented Culture Love – a vibrant series of school holiday art workshops delivered in partnership with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander councils. Held in selected communities, these workshops offered rich cultural experiences where children explored diverse artistic practices such as screen printing, painting, photography, music, and weaving. Guided by Elders and community leaders, participants used these creative tools to share and reimagine traditional stories, local customs, community histories, and their deep connection to sea and country.
