State Library is proud to loan our collection items to other cultural organisations for inclusion in their exhibitions.

Current loans

State Library collection items have been included in diverse exhibitions at a variety of venues. We have recently loaned the following items:

Portrait painting in gold frame of Charles Cochran-Baillie, 2nd Baron Lamington [Work of Art] 1895, by Robert Duddingstone Herdman,

Since 2016 the Charles Cochran-Baillie, 2nd Baron Lamington [Work of Art] 1895, by Robert Duddingstone Herdman.
Acc. 29900 has been on loan to Government House Queensland, Brisbane. The portrait can be viewed when there is an open house or special event at Government house, Brisbane.

Portrait of the Honourable Sir James Cockle.

Honourable Sir James Cockle [Work of Art] ca. 1870, Acc. 5493 is on display among other Queensland Supreme Court judges, on loan to the Supreme Court of Queensland.
You can view the portrait on level 3, QEII Law Courts Building, Banco Court foyer.

QAGOMA borrowed four plates featuring Where the Wild Things Are, Pictures by Maurice Sendak / [with] introduction by Maurice Sendak for inclusion in Fairy Tales exhibition from December 2023 to April 2024. 

Dalleburra Aboriginal clan protective copper breastplate, ca. 1863-1899

National Museum Australia in Canberra borrowed Dalleburra Aboriginal clan protective copper breastplate, ca. 1863-1899, TR 1867/364 as part of the Landmarks: People and Places across Australia exhibition 
This collection item is from the Christison Family Papers and Lammermoor Station Records 1857-1989 and was a long-term loan from 2011 to 2024. 

Tea towels displayed at Cobb & Co Museum, Toowoomba.

The Queensland Museum Network borrowed Glenn R. Cooke Souvenir Textiles Collection items for their Queensland to a T exhibition held at Queensland Museum Cobb+Co, Toowoomba from November 2023 to March 2024.

CPL – Choice, Passion, Life borrowed nine collection items from the Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland Records, John Oxley Library collection to exhibit at their 75th anniversary in March 2023.

Artist book on display at QUT Art Museum.

QUT Art Museum borrowed the artist book The end papers / [Mona Ryder] for inclusion in Minefield: The Art of Mona Ryder exhibition from November 2022 to February 2023.

Segar Passi art works displayed on white art gallery walls.

Cairns Art Gallery borrowed six Segar Passi watercolours from the Margaret Lawrie Collection of Torres Strait Islands Material 1964-1988. These artworks were included in the Segar Passi Meriba Ged A Gur (Our Land and Sea) exhibition from October to December 2022.

Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery borrowed two paintings from John Oxley Library collection, 31159 Robert Rayment Stanthorpe works of art 1888 and 4490 Henry Rielly Painting Bush scene for inclusion in Then | Now | ART exhibition from March to May 2022.

State Library of Queensland curated the Deadly Threads exhibition which travelled to Cairns Art Gallery (CAG). Collection items from the John Oxley Collection were included in the CAG Deadly Threads exhibition which ran from December 2021 to January 2022. 

Copies of McWhirters catalogues on display at Museum of Brisbane.

Museum of Brisbane borrowed four John Oxley Library collection items for their award winning The Storytellers exhibition which ran from April 2020 to January 2022.
