Access keys
Access keys are keyboard shortcuts that provide quick access to important links on this site, without requiring the use of a mouse. These shortcuts can be especially helpful for people with motor skill difficulties who use assistive technologies.

Skip links
If you use a screen reader or other assistive technology to browse this site, you can use skip links provided at the beginning of the page to quickly move to essential information like the primary navigation or content. These links are not visible in a graphical browser, but they can be accessed as the first links in the tab order for each page.
Tab order
To navigate this site without a mouse, use the Tab
key on your keyboard. State Library’s website has a logical tab order, so each Tab
press will take you to the next link or field. To move backwards, use Shift
plus Tab
. To follow links and submit forms, use the Enter
key.
ARIA keyboard navigation
State Library's website has rich interactive elements that can be navigated using key combinations recommended by the Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) standard.
If you're using a browser that supports ARIA, you can use the following key combinations:

Browsers that support ARIA include Explorer 8 and later, Firefox 2 and later, Opera 9 and later, and Google Chrome. If you're using a browser that doesn't support ARIA, all controls are still accessible as part of the normal tab order.
Browser support
The State Library website is designed to be compatible with a variety of browsers, devices, and platforms. To achieve this, the website is developed according to international web standards and best practices and is regularly tested across browsers.
While the website is accessible on all browsers and Internet devices, it may not display properly on browsers that do not comply with these standards. If you have trouble viewing any of our pages, please contact us.

The State Library logo is displayed in the top middle of the site. This logo is a link to the State Library home page.

The site navigation is a menu located at the top of each page. The menu links to:

- Collections – information about and links to State Library collection items
- Services – details about membership, borrowing, enquiry services, and spaces
- Visit – information to help plan a visit to State Library
- Discover – stories, ideas, and resources
- Get involved – awards offered by State Library and how to support
- About – contact and corporate information
Contact us
The contact us page details how you can get in touch with State Library including online, by phone, on-site or by mail.
Website search
To search on this website, locate the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the menu and select it to expand the search bar. You can choose to search either the website or the catalogue by selecting the appropriate radio button ('website' or 'search the catalogue'). Type your query into the search bar and hit Enter
or click the icon to see a list of search results.
Breadcrumbs
The breadcrumb trail can help you keep track of your location on the site. You can select the text links within the breadcrumb trail to quickly navigate to higher-level sections of the site.
Footer
The footer menu includes contact information, social media accounts and opening hours for State Library, and a link to subscribe to our newsletters.
It also contains legal and privacy notices, the sitemap and a link to Public Libraries Connect.

Search
To search on this website, follow these steps:
- Look for the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the menu and select it to expand the search bar.
- Choose whether you want to search the website or the catalogue by selecting the appropriate radio button ('website' or 'search the catalogue').
- Type one or more keywords in the search bar and hit
Enter
or select the icon to see search results. Note that the search is not case-sensitive.
Depending on your choice, you will see the following:
- If you selected to search the website, a list of search results will appear on a new page. You can filter the results to show pages, events, or blog posts.
- If you selected to search the catalogue, a new tab will open with a list of search results on the catalogue website.
Download and view documents
To access and view documents on your computer or mobile device, you may need to install specific software or use online tools.
PDF files:
- To view a PDF document, click on the link or download button and it will open in a new tab on your browser
- To save the PDF file to your device, click on the download button and choose a location to save it
- You'll need a PDF viewer, like Adobe Reader, to view downloaded PDFs on your device
Microsoft Office files:
- To view, save, edit, and print Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, you'll need an Office 365 paid subscription or a free Microsoft account
- You can also store Office files in OneDrive or Dropbox and access them through Office Online in your browser
- Alternatively, you can use a non-Microsoft product like Google Docs
