Welcome to the Australian South Sea Islander Blog

August 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of the first arrival of Australian South Sea Islanders transported to Queensland. To commemorate this significant event this blog has been created to discuss, share and celebrate Australian South Sea Islander heritage, culture and stories. Over the following weeks, the Queensland Museum, State Library of Queensland, Queensland Art Gallery and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art will all be contributing stories. We also welcome and encourage your input, either as a guest blogger or by adding your comments under each blog article.

The Australian South Sea Islander Blog is coordinated by Imelda Miller from the Queensland Museum. If you would like to contribute to the blog Imelda can be contacted via email - imelda.miller@qm.qld.gov.au

I have found this blog to be very useful. Can I ask for some help? I am preparing an audio sign which will be placed next to the South Sea Islander wall at Mon Repos near Bundaberg. It is heritage listed. I interviewed a local descendant Matt Nagus recently and would love to get some music which can accompany his stories. Do you know where I could buy some appropriate music?

Thanks Carl for you post. You can contact me at the Queensland Museum for further assistance. My email address is imelda.miller@qm.qld.gov.au.
