'We operate in a world of secrets': Cyber security firm opens up

Matthew Wilson doesn't get to talk about what he does very often.

"We operate in a world of secrets," says the co-founder of cyber security firm Penten.

But after being awarded the Telstra Australian Business of the Year at a ceremony on Thursday night Wilson is slowly getting used to the spotlight.

Wilson and his co-founders started Penten just over three years ago and have grown it to a staff of more than 50 people and turnover of more than $11 million.

A key issue for Penten has been marketing a business when most of its work is top secret.


"We as a team create technology to protect Australia’s most highly classified information from the worlds most advanced cyber adversaries," Wilson says.




"We understood if we needed to change the way people perceive Australian made capability we needed to be able to talk about it. We needed them to be aware of us before a proposal drops on the table. We deal in a world of secrets, yes we do, but sometimes the blanket tendency of that is to not talk about anything." Read more
