A vision for public libraries
By administrator | 16 June 2017
A renewed vision for Queensland public libraries is coming! And it’s just what we need, according to Rebecca Stavick, Executive Director of Do Space, which is a new kind of community tech library in Nebraska.

We will soon be asking you to have your say on the new vision for Queensland public libraries
Rebecca says setting a vision for the future helps everyone advocate for what libraries can be. It is one of four tips she shares for better communicating the value of libraries in her recent article ‘Stop telling people to love libraries’. The other ideas on her agenda include talking about why libraries exist, not what they offer; using rock-solid operations as your best marketing tool; and, measuring everything.
The Working Group supporting the review of The Next Horizon: VISION 2017 for Queensland public libraries, consisting of representatives from State Library of Queensland, Queensland Public Libraries Association and the Local Government Association of Queensland. The Group met recently and confirmed the process for the review of the document, the development of a new vision and future implementation; and tender process has commenced to seek appropriate consultants to do this work.
Keep an eye on the Public Libraries Connect Blog to find out how you can play a role in the new vision for Queensland public libraries; and if you have any queries regarding the upcoming review, don’t hesitate to email regionalpartnerships@slq.qld.gov.au.
