VALA Award for the Siganto Digital Learning Workshops
By Michelle Brown | 1 February 2023

State Library of Queensland is honoured to win the 2022 VALA Award for our Siganto Digital Learning Program. The biennial VALA Award recognises outstanding and innovative use of ICT to improve service to customers.
State Library of Queensland’s Siganto Digital Learning Program is a series of purpose driven workshops that help develop digital literacy in recently arrived communities.
Running from 2017 to 2022, the Siganto Digital Learning Workshops provided practical hands-on digital skills training and computer hardware to 265 individuals from newly arrived migrant and refugee communities, ranging in ages from 13 to 65 and more than 30 different countries of origin.
The unique workshops help to address the digital divide that can occur and present barriers for migrants and refugees forming broader connections within their community.
The VALA Award 2022 will be awarded to State Library in a virtual awards ceremony in February.
We would also like to acknowledge the terrific work of the VALA Award Runners Up;
- Geelong Regional Library Corporation - Saving family stories: photo and video digitisation
- The University of South Australia Using Appian to support submission of Non-Traditional Research Outputs (NTROs) to the Research Outputs Repository.
