Sweet Treats for Easter in the Junior Storytelling Resources
By administrator | 17 February 2017
Make your storytelling even more fun with State Library of Queensland’s junior storytelling kits and other resources to suit ages from infants to six. Show parents they can help nurture children’s love of language by reading together, sharing rhymes, singing songs and telling stories. Invite the children in your story time sessions to get involved in the actions and rhymes. You can lend storytelling resources to library members, schools and kindergartens or just use them in the library.
Easter kits are now available and each kit has different titles including: Happily Hoppity Little Bunny, Easter Bunny’s Helper, Spot’s Easter Surprise, The Easter Bunny comes to Queensland and Egg Hunting We Will Go.

Now is the time to order your Easter storytelling resources.
Other kits you can use for Easter include Bilby which has a bilby puppet and books including the Smallest Bilby and The Easter Tale. Try Bugs Bunny, with several books and a Bugs Bunny puppet, Bunny Rabbit, or Giant Carrot which, yes, has a giant carrot prop as well as the book Rabbits Don’t Lay Eggs.
There are more than 300 items in the junior storytelling collection, and the storytelling kits usually contain a number of picture books on a theme such as colours, dinosaurs and Australian animals. Try these machine-themed kits including Down By the Station, Firefighters, Machines, and Trains with titles like Jump On Board. Kits on a mice theme include Maisie, complete with a Maisie toy, Mouse and a Mickey and Minnie puppet kit.

Time for fun ... selecting storytelling resources.
Many storytelling kits include a prop such as a puppet, felt pieces or soft toy. Other resources include giant sized books, felt boards, a badge maker and a 24 foot parachute. There are also a number of lift-the-flap picture books.
A new range of kits on themes to help parents guide children through life experiences includes titles on Bullying and Confidence. There are also storytelling kits with Auslan sign language. Details on all the resources are on the website.
Libraries are welcome to borrow multiple kits to help with scheduling your storytelling sessions ahead of time. You can borrow enough kits for the next three to six months. Order your Easter kit now and several more for the school holidays. To find out all about the collection view the YouTube video.
