Start-ups are turning boats into floating hotel rooms

By Administrator | 3 April 2018

It is said that the two happiest days of a boat owner's life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it.

Hugh Treseder wants to increase that happiness quotient with his start-up allowing people to hire boats for overnight accommodation and work environments during the day.

"Imagine waking up on a very nice super yacht with a beautiful surrounding as opposed to opening the curtains in a hotel room," Treseder says.

The 37-year-old is the founder of Flotespace, an online marketplace that enables boat owners with boats berthed in marinas to allow people to use them for day or overnight stays.

"It allows the boat owner to generate passive income from the boat when it is not in use," says Treseder.

Boats on Flotespace can be rented from $350 to $600 a night and Flotespace charges a 14 per cent fee.

Both boat owners and customers leave a rating on the site of the experience.

"For the price of a hotel room or less you could be staying in a very unique environment," says Treseder. Read more
